10 memory-sparking songs in my life...

Friends, family, readers, world. HAPPY MONDAY!

We are reunited once again on this fine day (lol joke) that is Monday! No but for real, Mondays are always so dull, right? I can't even put into words how horrendous uni was today. My third module of the semester, 'Comparative Politics' is now underway and throughout the lecture I was finding it hard to maintain more than 30 seconds of interest, not the best start! I swear Monday's are there to just be the bane of our lives. I mean, do we really need a Monday? I'm sure the week would be better without it. If you ask me, we should all just campaign to abolish Monday's once and for all! Plan? I think so.
I don't know what it is about Monday's, I just don't like them - the association with a Monday, the name of Monday, the general Sunday feeling you adopt upon realising that Monday is the next coming day in the week...eughh, I just don't like Mondays. I've always said that I could  really use a day between Saturday and Sunday to one, make the weekend longer and two, to make Monday more bearable when it does come around!
Monday's, well, for me anyway, never fail to bring about that all too familiar start of the week depression-like state, in which the weekend seems too far away to even contemplate and yet, is something I can't stop thinking about. But alas, have no fear, i'm back with a fabulous new post for you all this Monday evening! - I hope this brightens up your day wherever you are and that you turn those negative-mindsets into positive ones - Monday's almost over people and you know what that means, right? One day down, four to go! Safe to say i'm living for the weekend these days. Is it really that obvious? Probably.

Anyhow my darlings, now that my rant about Monday's is over, the point to this blog can actually begin!
I always find on days like today that I listen to a wide spectrum of music - like seriously far ranging! And many of the songs that I choose to listen to instantly spark such a huge amount of memories from different moments in my life, young to old, important to insignificant. But nevertheless to me, they're priceless. So, I thought why not write about it? I figured it could be an interesting post for y'all to read and something a bit different. So yeah, here goes I guess. Oh and FYI, there are obviously many more songs on this 'list' that i've formed in my head, but this post will cover the 10 that particularly stand out to me. Oh, and there's no particular order.

1: Zedd ft. Foxes - 'Clarity'

I can't even explain how much I love this song, and what's more, it now reminds me of one the best experiences i've ever had in my life. Camp Loyaltown. This song was played almost continually, everyday, for the whole summer. It quickly became, what we described as a 'one of those camp songs'. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye and takes me back to the all-American summer adventure that camp provided me with. Simply fabulous.

2: Katy Perry - 'Part of Me'

When talking about Loyaltown it only seems natural that this song comes next in the firing line. Now as many of you know i'm a HUGE Katy Perry fan and I used 'Part of Me' in my application video to be hired by Camp America for the summer. If it wasn't for this song and the huge success my application video proved to be, I wouldn't be writing this and Loyaltown would never have happened. What an utterly horrendous thought. It's clear that Camp Loyaltown is now a "part of me that you're never, gonna ever take away from me."

3: Natalie Imbruglia - 'Torn'

I'm a self-confessed, still to this day, die-hard Imbruglia fan. No shame. Like it or leave it folks! It was actually my mum that originally got me into listening to this kind of music. It never fails to remind me of my early school years when this hit was the number one for weeks on end and would be played in my household on repeat. My mum's a 'repeat one song for weeks' kind of lady - got to love her! I've included this song because not only do I love it, but naturally, now that i'm older, it reminds me of my dearest mother, the woman in which I can't go a day without appreciating everything she does, has done and will continue to do for me throughout my life, right till the very end. I love you, mum. So much.

4: Lucenzo & Qwote - 'Danza Kuduro'

Now, sadly for you all, this is where the list starts to get a tad embarrassing. I'm apologising in advance! I don't know what it is about this song, but I just think it's an absolute beauty! It's uplifting, cheerful, fun and not to mention perfect for those holiday track lists! Despite typically being associated with a Spanish beach holiday, this song actually reminds me of my first visit to Amsterdam. After a wild night out with one of my best friends in the infamous Red-Light district, tearing up the many bars, this song was played in just about each one we stumbled across. You can imagine the dance moves that took place on this evening...so far from socially acceptable but yet completely fantastic! It was a huge hit at the time and I still love it as much now as I did back then. What a classic.

5: Passenger - "The Wrong Direction"

For those of you not familiar with Passenger, he's a British singer/songwriter whom I simply adore. I love music where it's all about the voice. Good music, a beautiful voice and amazing lyrics. I love this man. This song is taken from his most recent album and has quickly become one of my favourites of all time. It takes me back to my 1st year at University in Aberdeen. Winter walks around the beautiful campus, going back home on the train for the weekend looking out the window, sitting in my room at night with my favourite book and this playing in the background. Insignificant memories to all of you, but timeless, simple ones to me.

6: Flo Rida - 'Club Can't Handle Me'

Once again, slightly embarrassing but what you gonna do? I love this song so much. It's another one of those classic, uplifting songs that we all love to hate! This song takes me straight back to my second last year of high school in which every Friday night religiously from August through till around late October, my best friends and I would go to the beautiful 'West Sands' beach in St. Andrews (yes, where Chariots of Fire was filmed!) with another huge group of our friends from another school. It doesn't sound like much guys, but we honestly would just have the best time. I realise this is maybe hard to invisage, and the thoughts attached can't be much more than a bunch of wild, drunken teenagers let loose on a random beach! If i'm honest, I still don't even know what exactly made it so special and I don't think I ever will - that's maybe the beauty of it! It was definitely one of those 'you had to be there' times in my life that was just the epitome of what it means to be young, carefree and having a bloody good time. We would get drunk, we would have a bonfire, we would sing, we would dance, we would laugh and my oh my, would we have fun! If there's a god up there somewhere, can you take me back? Just one more time? Please?

7: The Coral - 'In the Morning'

The Coral are one of my favourite British bands of all time. This song is just another one of those 'oh it will never get old' type! The memories attached to this particular song are again, nothing majorly important, but to me they're invaluable. Seeing as the title of this song is 'In the Morning', it only makes sense that this song be played at that time, right? So, for me, this song also reminds me of my 1st year of University in Aberdeen. Almost every morning this song would motivate me to get my sorry-ass out of bed, make a coffee, get into the shower, open those curtains, let the sun shine through and cease the day!

8: Avril Lavigne - 'Sk8er Boi'

I know what you're all thinking - blast from the past?! HELL YEAH! This song is one of my first proper memories from primary school when I was like what, 8? God knows...young anyway! I remember me and my best friend at the time were absolutely obsessed with this song. We were just too cool back in the day with our at the time (can you believe it?!) black and white, flip-up phones with this being the one song on it that was naturally the sound for our alarm, ringtone and text tone. Nevertheless, I still love it and listen to it when i'm feeling youthful without shame! Yolo?

9: Bibio - 'Lovers' Carvings'

Now I actually hadn't even heard of this group until one of my dorm-mates in 1st year, Pierre (yes, he's French and believe me, it's obvious!) introduced me to them. This song for one, never fails to remind me of his French-ness and how much fun we had together in 1st year, but since i've been enlightened with this wonderful song, it has been played at many gatherings i've had with friends, walks to uni, lazy sundays lying on the sofa and countless other times. It's became one of the most played songs on my iTunes - and it's all thanks to Pierre! Pierre, I love you.

10: Avicii - 'Wake Me Up'

Ahh Avicii, the Swedish legend. The gorgeous male specimen. The genius. What can I say about you? I just had to include this song as although it's not quite a 'memory-sparking' song yet, it certainly will become one. Not only am I lucky enough to be seeing him live in March next year, but the man himself is from the beautiful Swedish capital that is Stockholm! This song is without doubt, my 'year abroad song' that will make me forever think of Stockholm, my time spent there and some of the amazing people i've been lucky enough to meet. My year abroad has only just gotten underway and there is a song associated with it. If you ask me, that's pretty special. I think it's safe to say that the plane journey home in June 2014 is going to consist of a bucket for my tears and this song on repeat! Stockholm, I love you.

So there you have it guys, some of my most memory-sparking songs from all different periods and times in my life. Each one valuable, each one unique, each one special and each one different.

Enjoy the music and remain youthful!

Speak soon.
